Vassilis Philippou

Having studied piano and composition at the Royal Holloway University of London, he continued with postgraduate studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire (London) and the Koninklijk Conservatorium (The Hague). He completed two research studies on the relationship between sound and space and the influence of Mediterranean music on classical composition. His compositions are influenced by European classical music and the Eastern Mediterranean traditions and express his artistic concerns as shaped by his interaction with people and the environment. He has released two solo albums, “Sol Aurorae” (2021) and “Colourful Emptiness” (2022), and in 2023 he participated in Odysseas Toumazou’s album “Origins” with vocals and percussion.

Odysseas Toumazou

Odysseas is a professional guitarist and composer. He studied jazz guitar at Amsterdam Conservatory, in 2011, with renown musicians such as Martijn van Iterson and Jesse Ruller. He participated in specialization workshops and private classes by καινοτόμους artists such as Scott Henderson, Gilad Hekselman and Brad Mehldau. He worked at True School of Music in India, as head of guitar studies’ department from 2015 to 2017. In 2019 he released his first album, “Ensticto” and in 2023 his second one, “Origins”.

Savvas Lagou

Born in Larnaca in 1991, he began violin lessons at the age of nine and pursued undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Trinity Laban and Royal Academy of Music in London, respectively. He is a permanent member of the second violins of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and a sub-principal in the first violins of the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra. He is also a founding member of the Fusionia Quartet, since 2018, with which he participated in the Cyprus International Festival in September 2019. He has participated in classical and traditional music festivals in Cyprus, Greece, Belgium, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, and London.

Elena Moudiri Chasiotou

A graduate of the Theatre Department at the School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in acting and directing. She has phonetically supported performances for the National Theatre of Northern Greece and the Experimental Stage of Technis. She has participated in the Thessaloniki Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean and collaborated as assistant director for Michail Marmarinos on the performance “Insenso”, for the Athens Festival. She is one of the founding members of the musical group Sinafi trio, with whom they released their first album “IHO” (2019) and they continue to perform in music venues and festivals in Europe and Turkey. She has created the vocal music ensemble Nefes, in Thessaloniki, where she teaches original arrangements of songs by anonymous composers of the Mediterranean, adapted exclusively for voices. She is also collaborating with the collective group of young artists with and without disabilities, “En Dynamei”, where they work on musical songs from theater, cinema, and traditional repertoire, adapted for voices.

Marina Liontou-Mohament

Born in Athens (1984), she studied Computer Science at the Athens University of Economics and Business and Folk and Traditional Music, specializing in the oud, at the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus, graduating with honors. She obtained a master’s degree in Oud and Performance, with honors, from CODARTS-University of the Arts (Rotterdam) under the guidance of Kudsi Erguner, with the support of the Onassis Foundation. She is a PhD candidate at the Leiden University, Academy of Performing Arts, with a research focus on rhythmic improvisation and composition in contemporary modal music. She has participated in various seminars at the Labyrinth music workshop of Ross Daly under the guidance of many renowned musicians (Yurdal Tokcan, Evgenios Voulgaris, Harris Labrakis, Mercan Erzincan, Sokratis Sinopoulos). She is a founding member of the Sinafi Trio, with whom they have recorded their album “IHO” under the famous label ZKALAN. Together they are performing in various festivals and give seminars in Turkey, Cyprus, Greece. At the same time, she is a member of “Fulya Ozlem ve Akustik Kabare”, she is collaborating with the “Rodopi Ensemble”, as well as with Alkis Zopoglou and Giannis Kyrimkiridis as “Crossover Trio”.

Asineth Fotini Kokkala

Born in Athens in 1989, she graduated from the Experimental Music High School in Pallini (2006) and the Department of Folk and Traditional Music at the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus (2013). Her main instruments are the kanun and the cello and she is a postgraduate student of Turkish music at the Kocaeli University State Conservatory. She has attended seminars at Labyrinth with Ömer Erdoğdular, Göksel Baktagir, Halil Karaduman, Evgenios Voulgaris, Haris Lambrakis, Erkan Oğur, Giorgos Xylouris, Uğur Işık, Ross Daly, Derya Türkan, and Sokratis Sinopoulos. She is a member of Sinafi trio (2014) and NikoTeini (2020) and she has collaborated with outstanding musicians such as Melike Şahin, Sanaa Moussa, Evgenios Voulgaris, Lamia Yared, Nikos Andrikos, Solon Lekkas, Apostolos Sideris, and Selin Yücesoy. She has also participated in numerous recordings (Nikos Andrikos “Motivasyon” (2014), “Sedef” (Z müzik, 2017), Fulya Özlem ve Akustik Kabare “Manidar Boşluk” (Z müzik, 2018),Sinafi trio “İho” (2019), Melike Şahin “Kara Orman” (2019) and more). She has been living in Istanbul since 2010, and has founded “Istos Choir”, with Turkish-speaking, amateur singers from all ethnic groups in Turkey (Alevi, Jewish, Greek, Armenian, Levantine) who sing Greek-language songs and have performed at festivals in both Greece and Turkey.

Nikos Paraoulakis

Born in Crete in 1977. In 1995, he moved to Athens where he studied and received diplomas in Advanced Theory (harmony, counterpoint) with Panagiotis Adam, Iosif Papadatos, and Vasilis Foster, classical guitar with Thanassis Koumenteridis, and jazz guitar with Giotis Samaras. Since 2000, he has focused on Eastern and Greek traditional music and learned ney from Haris Lambrakis and Ömer Erdoğdular. He has also taught ney at the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus in Arta. He is an active member of the Polis Ensemble, with whom he has released the albums “Polis Ensemble” (2019) and “Hellenic Sound” (2021). He has collaborated with significant Greek and foreign musicians such as: Eleni Karaindrou, Sokratis Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Antonis Anestis, Maria Farantouri, Orpheus Peridis, Haig Yazidjian, Marta Sebastyen, Karine Polwart, Haris Alexiou, Eleni Vitali, Loudovikos of Anogeia, Vasilis Skoulas, N. Kyrpouros, and others. He has released two solo albums of his own composition, arrangement, recording, and production: “From Light and Darkness” (MLK, 2014) and “En Route” (2022).

Kyriakos Tapakis

Α graduate of the Musical High School of Palini, he has studied oud with A. Apergis, I. Arvanitis, V. Georginis, K. Papadopoulou and has attended master classes with important musicians like Necati Celik, Yordal Tokcan, Yildiran Guz (Turkey), Simon Shaheen (Palestine), Ara Dinkjian (Armenia), Charbel Rouhana (Lebanon), Yildiran Guz (Turkey). He has taught at the musical high school of Thessaloniki, the musical school “Tetraktis” of Stavroupoli, “En Chordais” musical school along with Ross Daly, at the University of Macedonia, the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus and at the musical workshops of Agios Lavrentios.He is a member of musical bands such as Balarom Trio, Loxandra, Kostas Theodorou quintet and has worked with many musicians like Sokratis Sinopoulos, Katerina Papadopoulou, Domna Samiou, Chronis Aidonidis, Petroloukas Chalkias Nedyalko Nedyalkov, Psarantonis,  Savvina Giannatou, Ross Daly,  Alkinoos Ioannidis, Sokratis Malamas, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Eleni Vitali, Nikos Kypourgos, Nikos Portokaloglou, Melina Kana, David Lynch and Elli Paspala.

Yannis Kyrimkyridis

Born in Ioannina in 1979, he started playing the piano at the age of 4, when he began his classical music studies. At 18, he moved to Athens and began performing as a pianist with the Armenian Haig Yazdjian’s band, which influenced his musical approach and aesthetics and helped him develop a unique understanding of the role of the piano alongside Arabic and Eastern instruments, such as the oud. He recorded for ECM Records as the pianist of the Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet on the albums “Eight Winds” (2013) and “Metamodal” (2019), produced by Manfred Eicher. He writes music that is used in numerous commercials and films worldwide and is active in the music library market as a composer with a catalog of over 250 pieces.

Vangelis Karipis

Born in Athens he has been involved with Greek traditional music from a young age, studying the oud and Byzantine music, while at the age of 16 he began studying percussion. He has collaborated with many Greek and foreign musicians such as: Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Giorgos Dalaras, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Sokratis Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Nikos Kypoyrgos, Giorgos Andreou, Nikos Xydakis, Orpheus Peridis, Haig Yazidjian, Ara Dinkjian, Theodosii Spasov, Ross Daly, Domna Samiou, and others. He also participated in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. In 1997, with Petros Kourtis and Andreas Papas, he formed the percussion ensemble Krotala, with whom they released the self-titled album in 2002. Additionally, he has released two solo albums titled “Krousta” (1995) and “Voices of Percussion” (2005). He has attended percussion workshops with significant musicians in the field such as: Tricy Sankaran, Joe Santos, Jamey Haddad, Ahmer Misirli, and since 2016, he has been teaching at the Postgraduate Program for Traditional Percussion, in the Musicology Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Giorgos Ventouris

George Ventouris was born and raised on the island of Paros. He studied classical guitar with Alexandros Zerbas, jazz guitar with Vasilis Rakopoulos and Apostolos Leventopoulos, and classical double bass with Vaggelis Zografos. He has collaborated in concerts and recordings with Martha Mavroidi, Antonis Apergis, Stian Carstensen, Nedyalko Nedyalkov, Yordal Yoksan, Ross Daly, Eliza Carthy, Serkan Cagri, Aleka Kanelidou, Stathis Koukoularis, Nikos Oikonomidis, Lizetta Kalimeri, Pantelis Thalassinos, Kostas Pavlidis, and others. He has composed music for the feature film “The Guide”. He has released two solo albums: “Hohlacas” (2019) and “First Light” (2023).

Thomas Meleteas

Born in 1993 and raised in Athens. He is a PhD candidate in the Department of Music Science and Arts at the University of Macedonia, with a research-artistic focus on the interpretation and performance of the oud, under the supervision of Thymis Atzakas. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Athens and a Master’s degree in Music Science and Arts from the University of Macedonia. He has released three solo albums with his own compositions and has collaborated on numerous recordings. As an oud player, he has toured extensively in Greece and abroad, performing his own music and collaborating with renowned musicians such as Petros Klampanis, Areti Ketime, Christos Kaliontzidis, Fenia Papadopoulou, Raphael Meleteas, and Gerasimos Papadopoulos. For the past six years, he has been teaching the oud and theory of modal music.

Lefteris Andriotis

Born in Athens, he is a graduate of the Palini Music School. He studied advanced music theory, earning a degree in harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. He has attended courses in improvisation, jazz harmony, and orchestration at the F. Nakas Conservatory.

Dimosthenis Karachristodoulou

Born in Athens in 1997, he started playing guitar and bass at 13 and was later introduced to ethnic-traditional music through Native American music and flute. Later on he began building musical instruments and encountered the Constantinople lyre. He graduated the Simon Karras School of Instrument Making, under the mentorship of Manolis Giannoulakis and has studied lyre with Giorgos Kontogiannis, Stratis Psaradellis, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Markos Skoulios, and Derya Türkan, and lafta with Nikos Andrikos. Co-founder and a steady member of the Urban Modal ensemble, he participates in various projects with colleagues through live performances and recordings. Concurrently, he is a student at the Department of Music Studies, University of Ioannina, specializing in the kemençe.

Paris Paraschos

Born in Nicosia in 1997, he began taking piano, bouzouki, bass, and classical guitar lessons from a young age. As a performer, he has participated in musical performances in Cyprus and Greece alongside renowned artists, focusing on various aspects of the Greek repertoire. He studied Music Science and Arts at the University of Macedonia, specializing in Greek folk singing and he is actively involved in songwriting, teaching, and research on vocal performance.

Freideriki Tombazou

Born in 1995, she began her musical journey at a young age, studying classical guitar, classical singing, and piano. She graduated with honors from the Nicosia Music School and continued her studies in Greek traditional (folk) music at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, focusing on traditional singing. In recent years, she has focused her interest on the pre-war and Smyrna-style of rebetiko music and laïko (popular) music. She participates in many local bands and collaborates with notable artists and colleagues in musical ensembles, music scenes, music shows, concerts, festivals, and more. Her research interests, also due to her undergraduate thesis, include Cypriot music and the shared musical culture of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

Katerina Paraschou

She studied at the National Conservatory of Greece (Athens), at the Department of Contemporary Singing, and at the Department of Theatre Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. From a young age, she took guitar and piano lessons at a music school and attended the Nicosia Music High School, where she focused on classical singing. Since 2015, she has participated in concerts with artists such as Giannis Markopoulos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Antonis Mitzelos, Kostas Makedonas, Katerina Kouka, Stelios Dionysiou, Pantelis Thalassinos, and Georgia Dagaki.

Anastasia Zakinthinou

From a young age, she began studying classical guitar, singing, and oud. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Folk and Traditional Music from the School of Fine Arts, Technological Educational Institute of Epirus, with a musical specialization in oud, and a Master’s degree from the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She received the first prize from the jury president Chronis Aidonidi at the first Panhellenic Traditional Singing Competition, in Drymmona, Lefkada. She has taught oud, classical guitar, and European music choir at the Lefkada Music School and in adult music seminars organized by the Lefkada Prefecture. She has participated in numerous musical ensembles and has collaborated with renowned musicians (Manolis Lidakis, Michalis Ganas, Chronis Aidonidis, Mario, etc.).
